The Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola were originally written to be made during a 30-day retreat. The retreat involves a month of prayer in silence with 4-5 prayer sessions each day and daily spiritual direction. Opportunities for completion of the 30-Day Spiritual Exercises are offered at the Jesuit Retreat Center in Los Altos, California.
Shorter 8-Day Retreats of Silence are also offered by the Jesuit Retreat Center. While not as extensive as the experience of the Exercises, the shorter retreat builds on many of the meditations and reflections of the longer version (20th Annotation) of the Spiritual Exercises.
Priests of the diocese interested in making the 8-Day Silent Retreat are encouraged to speak to the CIS Director.
