The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a worldwide Catholic organization of individuals committed to following Christ through service to those in need. Members are called Vincentians, and they show their commitment and devotion to Christ through person-to-person service to the poor and marginalized. Vincentians recognize that the fruit of their labor grows not from themselves, but from God and the poor they serve. As a lay led organization, it is truly a network of individuals committed to the principle of neighbors helping neighbors.

Reflections & Sharing

In today’s Gospel, Jesus says: “…where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

Mr. W was facing eviction from his apartment even though he had been paying rent on time. He was also dealing with the death of a family member. During our home visit, we learned that he owed a large amount in past due bills for water, sewer, and trash. He was confused and overwhelmed by the charges, so we met with the landlord to go over the paperwork. The landlord agreed to work on an application for assistance from the county. Meanwhile, Mr. W still had to figure out a way to pay his other utilities. We helped him make calls to the companies and navigate their assistance programs. He thanked us for getting him through the tyranny of the moment.

Last month, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul enabled the poor to experience Jesus’ presence by providing over $15,000 in assistance to 62 households, helping them with rent (37%), utilities (43%), and goods from the thrift store (20%).
